Hammann’s Butcher Shop Deli and Catering established the family business at 1369 Compton Road in Mt. Healthy, Ohio in June of 1991. Owners, John and Pat Hammann, along with their sons, embarked on their American dream, which has now become their 15th year of successful business in the retail meat, deli and catering business. John, at age 46, saw this adventure as a low risk opportunity, due to his 30 years of wholesale and retail experience, and also having been part of the family business as a youngster. The store located on Compton Road occupied approximately 1,800 square feet and relied predominantly on the retail trade and three full time employees, John and sons Ryan and Rob.
However, catering was in its infancy but has grown to become an essential part of the business. By the mid-1990s, with the substantial increase in business, relocation became necessary, due to the lack of expansion possibilities at the Compton Road Location. In July of 1991, the newly remodeled 2,500 square foot facility at 7864 Hamilton Avenue, Mt Healthy, Ohio opened. Hammann’s thrived at its premier location with plenty of exposure, ample parking and additional amenities, such as beer, wine, tobacco, lottery and groceries. With the tremendous exposure and added convenience, the business was well established.
The Hammann family, John, Pat, Rob, Ryan and Jason, continued to run the business with old fashioned butcher shop flare and friendly service. In September of 1999, Rob opened the family’s second location at 6180 Old Winton Road, Fairfield, Ohio. This 3,000 square foot facility in flourishing Butler County is approximately five miles north of the Mt. Healthy location. Occasioned by the tremendous amount of catering opportunities in Fairfield, and a non-renewable lease in Mt. Healthy, John and Rob made the decision to close the Mt. Healthy store in March, 2001.
Although this decision was disappointing to the Mt. Healthy community, most patrons continue quintessentially, to support the business today. As a result of such support, Hammann’s has grown to fifteen employees, providing services for its customers, as well as offering many new items. John, Rob and family, along with the help of their dedicated staff, plan to continue to serve the Fairfield, Mt. Healthy and surrounding areas for years to come with their trademark friendly approach and quality products.
